KARACHI: A passenger on board an Air India Express flight from Dubai to Amritsar suffered a medical emergency on Saturday, forcing the plane to make an unscheduled landing at Karachi airport. The flight, which had 120 passengers and six crew members, took off from Dubai at 8:51 a.m. (local time) and was expected to reach Amritsar at 1:30 p.m.
However, around 11:30 a.m., the crew noticed that a passenger, identified as Rajesh Kumar, was feeling unwell and showing signs of discomfort. They immediately contacted the ground staff and requested a diversion to the nearest airport. The flight was then directed to land at Karachi airport, which was about an hour away.
The flight landed safely at Karachi airport at 12:30 p.m. and was met by a medical team and an ambulance. The passenger was taken out of the plane and given first aid by the doctor at the airport. He was diagnosed with a mild heart attack and was given some medicines to stabilize his condition.
The passenger was then cleared by the airport medical team to continue his journey to Amritsar. He was taken back to the plane and given a seat in the front row. The flight resumed its journey at 2:30 p.m. and reached Amritsar at 3:30 p.m.
The passenger was then transferred to a hospital in Amritsar for further treatment. His family members, who were waiting for him at the airport, were informed about his situation and were relieved to see him alive.
The airline spokesperson praised the crew for their quick action and professionalism. He also expressed his gratitude to the local authorities at Karachi airport for their cooperation and assistance.
