New Delhi: Russia has accused Ukraine of carrying out the largest drone attack on its territory since the start of the war between the two countries 18 months ago. Ukrainian drones targeted six Russian regions in the early hours of Wednesday, including an airport in Skov that caught fire.
The Skov airport, located in western Russia, was hit by a drone that damaged four IL-78 transport aircraft, according to the official news agency Tass. The governor of Skov, Mikhail Vedenikov, said that no one was injured in the attack and that the fire was extinguished. He also announced the suspension of all flights to and from the airport on Wednesday.
Social media users shared videos and photos of the smoke and flames rising over Skov. The attack on Skov was the only one that caused significant damage, according to Russian officials. The Russian military said it shot down three drones in the Bryansk region, while two more were downed in Oryol. The governors of Ryazan, Kaluga, and Moscow also reported drone activity in their regions.

The drone strike comes amid escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, who have been at war since Russia invaded and annexed Crimea in 2022. The conflict has killed thousands of people and displaced millions more.
