New Delhi: Now sitting MPs will not get VIP treatment in All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi. In this regard, a letter has been sent by the AIIMS administration to the Joint Secretary of the Lok Sabha Secretariat on October 21, in which the order issued recently for giving VIP treatment has been withdrawn.

In a letter sent by AIIMS Chief Administrative Officer Dev Nath Sah, it has been said that the order issued by AIIMS regarding medical care to sitting MPs has been withdrawn with immediate effect. Therefore, now the sitting MPs will not get VIP treatment in AIIMS.

Let us tell you that on October 17, a letter was written by AIIMS to YM Kandpal, Joint Secretary, Lok Sabha Secretariat for the treatment of MPs, in which AIIMS Director M Srinivas called for Outpatient Department (OPD), Emergency Consultancy, and both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. SOPs were listed for the hospitalization of sitting MPs.

The director wrote in the letter that the duty officers (who are qualified medical professionals) of the hospital administration department would be available round the clock in the AIIMS control room to facilitate and coordinate the arrangements. AIIMS Director said in the letter that the employees of the MP can contact 011-26589279, 011-26593308, 011-26593574, or 9868397016 to talk to the officer on duty. The letter also said that the officer, who is also a qualified medical professional, would talk to the specialist or super-specialist doctor or the head of the department concerned to fix the appointment.

In case of emergency, the staff of Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha secretariat or MP can approach the duty officer, who will guide them to emergency services.

However, apart from the Resident Doctors Association of AIIMS, the Federation of Resident Doctors Association was strongly opposed and called it obstructing the treatment of the common man. Also, this VIP culture was condemned. Not only this, the RDA along with the AIIMS Director and other officers had also demanded to withdraw this order in this matter.
