New Delhi: A new rule has been issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on Wednesday, in which the exemption of having more SIMs has been abolished. According to the new rules of the Department of Telecommunications, now it has become mandatory for the user having more than 9 SIMs to verify the SIM card.
If these SIM cards are not verified, they will be disabled. Let us tell you that for the states of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and North East, this number is only six. The Telecom Department has asked telecom companies to remove all those mobile numbers from the database which are not in use as per the rules.
Know what is DoT order?
In the order issued by the Telecom Department, it has been said that in case the customers of the customers are found with more SIM cards than allowed, they will be given the option to keep the SIM of their choice and turn off the rest, but its limit is not more than 9. The Telecom Department said that during the survey conducted by the department, if any customer is found to have more than the prescribed limit of SIM cards of all telecom companies, then all the SIMs will be re-verified. The telecom department has taken this step with the aim of investigating financial crimes, objectionable calls, automated calls, and incidents of fraud.
Order to close sim in 30 days
DoT has ordered all telecom operators to send notifications to users who have more than 9 SIM cards. All outgoing calls to such SIM cards should be stopped within 30 days. Whereas incoming calls have been ordered to be closed within 45 days. However, mobile SIM users will also have the option to surrender the extra SIM.
