Bhopal: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Mohan Yadav as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, ending the suspense that had been going on for over a week. Mohan Yadav, a three-time MLA from Ujjain South constituency, was the Education Minister in the previous Shivraj Singh Chouhan government. He is also a PhD holder and a businessman.
Mohan Yadav was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party on Monday, 11 December 2023, in a meeting held in the presence of three central observers appointed by the BJP high command. The observers were Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Telangana BJP chief Dr. K. Laxman, and Jharkhand BJP leader Asha Lakra.
According to sources, the BJP decided to choose a new face for the top post, sidelining veteran leaders like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Narottam Mishra, and Gopal Bhargava. The party also wanted to give representation to the backward classes, who constitute a significant vote bank in the state. Mohan Yadav, who belongs to the Yadav community, was seen as a suitable candidate for the post.
The BJP also announced the names of two Deputy Chief Ministers and the Speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Jagdish Deora, who won the MLA election from Malhargarh seat, and Rajesh Shukla, who won from Bijawar seat, were chosen as the Deputy Chief Ministers. Narendra Singh Tomar, the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, was selected as the Speaker of the Assembly.
As soon as the name of Mohan Yadav was announced as the Chief Minister, he was congratulated by the observers, the outgoing Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and other BJP leaders. Mohan Yadav thanked the party for giving him the opportunity and said that he would try to fulfill the expectations of the people of Madhya Pradesh. He also said that he would work for the development and welfare of the state.
