New Delhi: There is good news for the common man. The government has again reduced the prices of subsidized tomatoes. Tomatoes will now be sold at the rate of Rs 70 per kg. The government reduced the price of tomatoes sold at a subsidized rate from Rs 80 per kg to Rs 70 per kg from July 20.

The central government has been selling tomatoes at subsidized rates since Friday last week. On behalf of the government, cooperative institutions Indian National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited Nafed (NAFED) and National Consumer Cooperative Federation of India Limited (NCCF) are selling it.

Ministry of Consumer Affairs gave instructions
According to an official statement, “The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has directed NCCF and NAFED to sell tomatoes at a retail price of Rs 70 per kg from July 20, 2023, in view of the fall in tomato prices.”

The price was also reduced on 16 July
Tomatoes procured by NCCF and NAFED were initially sold at Rs 90 per kg. After this, from July 16, 2023, its price was reduced to Rs 80 per kg. According to the statement, “By reducing the price and selling it at Rs 70 per kg, the consumers will get more benefit.”
