New Delhi: 79.79 percent and 72.14 percent voters exercised their franchise in the first phase of voting for 30 assembly seats in West Bengal and 47 in Assam on Saturday.
According to a press release issued by the Election Commission, the first phase of polling was conducted at 21 thousand 825 polling stations for a total of 77 assembly seats in both states.
10 thousand 288 polling stations were set up for 30 seats in West Bengal, at which 74 lakh voters exercised their franchise, while for Assam’s 47 seats, 81 lakh voters voted at 11 thousand 537 polling stations.
In view of the social distance in view of the Corona epidemic, the number of voters at each polling station was reduced from 1500 to 1000, due to which the number of polling stations has been increased.
According to the commission, live monitoring and webcasting were arranged at more than 50 per cent sensitive polling stations for peaceful and fair elections. Webcasting was arranged from 5392 polling stations in West Bengal, while the number of such polling stations in Assam was 5039.
A record amount of Rs 281 crore 28 lakh has been recovered in both the states from the day of notification of the first phase of voting, which includes cash amount, liquor, drugs and free gifts etc.
