Chhatarpur(M.P): If everything happens according to estimates then there is good news for the state as well as the country. It is estimated that 3.42 crore carat diamonds are buried in Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh. However, from the environmental point of view, this news is also a bit disappointing, because to remove these diamonds, 2 Lakh 15 thousand trees will have to be sacrificed in a forest spread over 382.131 hectares.
In the district of Buckswaha district, which is estimated to contain 3.42 crore carat diamonds, there are 40 thousand trees of teak, besides medicinal trees like Baheda, Arjun, Peepal, Tendu and Chem. Significantly, the administration claims that Panna district has the largest diamond store in the country. There are 22 lakh carat diamonds in the ground here, out of which about 13 lakh carat diamonds have also been extracted. There are 9 lakh carat diamonds avaible. After this stock, now 15 times more diamonds are estimated to be released from Panna district in Bakaswaha.
Essel Mining of Birla Group had the highest bid
According to the information, the survey of this place started 20 years ago. This survey was done under the Bandar Diamond Project. The government auctioned it 2 years ago. Many companies took part in the auction, but the highest bid was made by Essel Mining of Birla Group. The government is giving its lease to the company for 50 years. It is being told that 62.64-hectare area of this forest has been selected for extracting diamonds. The mine will be built here. However, the company has sought 382.131 hectares of forest. So that debris can be dumped on 205 hectares of land.
The company will cost 2500 crores
It is said that the company will incur a burden of 2500 crores in this work. Let me tell you, earlier the Australian company Riotinto had applied for mining lease on this land. However, before the final decision of the Ministry of Environment, Riotinto refused to work.
The first report had written that there are wildlife
Cutting down trees to extract diamonds is sure to cause huge damage to the environment. Apart from this, there will be a crisis on wildlife. In the report of Geology and Mining MP and Riotinto Company presented in May 2017, leopard, eagle, bear, reindeer, deer, the peacock was found in this forest but now in the new report, this wildlife is not being reported here. is. In December, the report of DFO and CF Chhatarpur also claimed that there is no habitat of protected wildlife in the area.
