Mexico: A journalist running an online local news program was shot and killed in southern Mexico. So far this year, 15 media persons have been murdered in the country. Prosecutors in the southern state of Guerrero said on Monday that Freddie Roman was shot and killed in the state capital, Chilpancingo.
Roman’s program ‘The Reality of Guerrero’ focused on state politics. Clashes between drug traffickers and security personnel are common in Guerrero. Prosecutors have yet to provide details regarding Roman’s murder. At the same time, local media says that he was shot inside his vehicle.
Significantly, 2022 has been the worst year for journalists in Mexico, which is now considered the most dangerous country for journalists outside the war zone. So far this year, 15 media personnel have been murdered in the country including Roman.
