Davos: Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute of India, India’s largest vaccine maker, has said that his company will have to destroy at least 200 million corona vaccine doses. He said that countries around the world should become part of the ‘Global Epidemic Treaty’ so that such crises can be faced together.
Poonawalla was in Davos, Switzerland to participate in the World Economic Forum. He said many things in an interview given to an Indian TV channel. He said we know what went bad and what got better amid the pandemic. Poonawalla said we hope that problems like the availability of raw materials, validation of vaccine certificates, clinical trials, and manufacturing will no longer arise.
Poonawalla said that there should be such a treaty so that raw material can be supplied comfortably, apart from sharing intellectual property amongst each other. Vaccine certificates can be sent to each other in digital form. He said the corona vaccine is proving to be effective not only on one variant but on all variants. Apart from this, it is saving people from getting serious and going to the hospital.
SII Chief said that risk-taking is also very important to be successful in the market. If you do not do the necessary work on time, the market does not wait for anyone. In such a situation, it is important that you believe in teamwork and believes in your team.
He said the company is planning to launch a cervical cancer vaccine by the end of this year. There will also be a vaccine that will work simultaneously for five diseases, including malaria. He said that a clinical trial of the dengue vaccine is going on.
