Indore: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 1,733.43 kg of hemp on the outskirts of Bhopal on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday in an action taken under special notice. Its price in the market is estimated to be around 3.5 crores. Officials of DRI Indore and Bhopal intercepted a container truck near Transstroy Toll Naka. Upon investigation, 788 packages of cannabis were found in it. The registration number of the truck was from Uttar Pradesh and it was coming from Andhra Pradesh. The truck’s container was filled with empty drums to conceal the hemp. According to officials, the goods were being taken to Uttar Pradesh. The hemp-laden truck was seized on charges of violation of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, 1985. A person has also been arrested under this act.
This is the largest consignment of cannabis seized under any action by the Indore Zonal Unit of DRI. The local unit of the DRI has issued a statement reiterating its commitment to tackle the menace of drugs and substances. During the last one year, DRI Indore has seized a total of over 3.5 tonnes of hemp in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
117 kg charas two days ago
Just two days ago, officials of DRI Indore and Bhopal, with the help of Narsinghpur police, seized 117 kg charas (hashish), which was being smuggled from Nepal, as part of a day-night action. Two vehicles and seven people were arrested in this case.
Drug smuggling increased through MP-CG
So far this year, the DRI has carried out several cases of seizure of drugs like Ganja and Charas in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh (MP-CG). More than 20 people have been arrested in these cases under the NDPS Act.
