Bhind: In Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind District Jail, 22 prisoners were injured, including one in a critical condition, when the wall of a barrack collapsed in the early hours of Saturday. District Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Singh told over the phone that the wall of the number six barrack collapsed at around 5.10 am. He told, “22 prisoners were injured in this accident. One seriously injured prisoner, Udai Singh, has been sent to Gwalior for better treatment.”
He said that out of the 22 injured, one prisoner suffered minor injuries. So he was not admitted to the hospital and only first aid was given. Singh said the prisoner who received first aid and 233 other prisoners have been shifted to the Central Jail in Gwalior. In this way, the building of Bhind District Jail, about 150 years old, has been vacated.
This building was converted into a prison in 1958. He said that the process of declaring the jail building as a dilapidated building has been started. The SP said that 20 injured in the accident are being treated at the district hospital. There were 255 inmates in the jail at the time of the accident.
Singh said, “As soon as we got the information, the policemen were sent to the jail for the rescue operation. The jail building is quite old so the wall may have collapsed due to incessant rains for the past few days.
Meanwhile, Bhind District Collector Santosh Kumar S told PTI on Saturday night that he is going to order a committee to investigate the incident.
