New Delhi: All the countries of the world are currently battling with an increase in the cases of Omicron, a very dangerous variant of Covid-19. Meanwhile, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), said on Monday that at present such conditions have been created globally that will help more variants to emerge. It is meant to say that the present situation is favorable for the growth of other strains of Covid-19.
Stating that since the increase in Omicron cases, more than 80 million cases have been reported worldwide, which is more than the total number of cases in the year 2020, the WHO chief said that this is the time to emerge in the ongoing pandemic. Will not be the last Covid-19 variant. However, Ghebreyesus assured that the COVID-19 Global Health Agency and the “acute phase of the pandemic” could end this year itself, but that would require a comprehensive use of strategies and tools by all countries.

To achieve this, he said countries should aim to vaccinate at least 70% of their population, focusing on high priority groups such as the elderly, adults, health workers, and vulnerable individuals. Ghebreyesus further said that countries need to promote COVID-19 testing, look for more variants in the future find solutions to problems related to the pandemic, and not wait for the crisis to end.
According to the news agency Reuters, the head of the United Nations health agency said in a press conference, “The Covid-19 epidemic is now entering its third year and we are at a critical juncture. We must work together to end the acute phase of this pandemic. We can’t let this go on in the midst of panic and neglect.”
