Kolkata: Tension is visible since Ram Navami in Howrah, West Bengal. There was violence again on Friday, a day after arson on ‘Ramanavami’. Politics has also heated up due to the violence that took place on Thursday in the Kajipara area of the district. The heavy police force has been deployed in Howrah. There is strict vigilance in the Shibpur area of Howrah as well. Police are on alert given Jumme. So far 31 people have been arrested in connection with the violence on the occasion of Ram Navami. At the same time, during the Ram Navami procession in Howrah, CM Mamta Banerjee got angry over the ruckus. For this, he has accused Hindu organizations of changing the route, in response to which the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has denied the allegations of changing the route. VHP said that the West Bengal government is protecting the attackers.
Significantly, during the clashes in Howrah on Thursday, several vehicles including some police vehicles were set on fire. Some shops and autorickshaws were also vandalized. Fresh stone-pelting was reported in West Bengal’s Howrah district a day after clashes broke out between two groups during a Ram Navami procession in the industrial city. The video shared by news agency ANI also shows stone-pelting by police personnel as they try to control the situation. Mamta Banerjee is targeting the right-wing organizations and holding them responsible for the vitiated atmosphere on Ram Navami here. Mamta Banerjee said that those whose properties have been damaged during the violence will be helped. 31 people related to the violence have been arrested.
During the violence here, many vehicles including some police vehicles were set on fire. Some shops and autorickshaws were also vandalized during the arson. The BJP has blamed the TMC government for the violence during Ram Navami. West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar tweeted, “Yesterday’s attack and arson on Ram Navami processions at various places in West Bengal is a direct result of CM Mamata Banerjee’s provocative statements against the organizers of Ram Navami. We can clearly see the West Bengal Police standing by the rioters and staying silent”.
