Lucknow: Elections have been announced on 12 seats of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. Election Commission has released its notification. Voting will be held on January 28 for the election of the upper house MLAs and counting on the same day. Whereas the process of nomination will start from January 11 and names will be withdrawn by January 21. The total of 12 MLAs whose tenure ends on January 30 includes 3 BJP (BJP), 6 SP, and 2 BSP MLAs. Naseemuddin Siddiqui’s seat had been lying vacant for the last year, as he had become an MLA from the BSP, but had joined the Congress after that.
The term of these 3 BJP MLAs is ending
- Deputy CM Dr. Dinesh Sharma
- BJP State President Swatantra Dev Singh
- Laxman Prasad Acharya
The term of these six SP MLAs is ending
- Leader of the Opposition in the Council Ahmed Hassan
- Ashu Malik
- Ramesh Yadav
- Ramjattan Rajbhar
- Virendra Singh
- Saheb Singh Saini
These two BSP MLAs are involved
- Dharamvir Singh Ashok
- Pradeep Kumar Jatav
Apart from this, the 12th seat of Nasimuddin Siddiqui is being vacated. Siddiqui left the BSP and joined Congress. So his membership was lost and the seat was vacant.
Which party will win how many seats
The election on 12 seats is going to be interesting because only the MLAs will vote in it. In such a situation, the party that has more MLAs, the more council members will be able to win the party. Based on the number of MLAs, BJP will easily win 10 seats. The SP will also win one seat, but the BSP and Congress will not get a single seat. There will be 1 seat on which political manipulations can be seen. This is because all the parties will have surplus votes after winning their MLA. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see which party the 12th MLA is elected. The term of the legislators elected to the Legislative Council is 6 years.
