Washington: US President Donald Trump has signed a bill that calls for establishing an American consulate in Tibet and forming an international coalition to ensure that the next Dalai Lama is selected only for the Tibetan Buddhist community People should do it and there should be no interference from China in this. The Tibetan Policy and Support Act 2020 has amended various programs and provisions related to Tibet. Trump approved the bill on Sunday under a $ 2300 billion package to provide relief and funding to the federal government to combat the coronavirus.
Despite China’s opposition, the US Senate passed it unanimously last week, underlining the right of Tibetans to choose a successor to their spiritual leader, and expanding the role of a special diplomat on issues of Tibet. Under the bill, the US special diplomat on Tibet-related matters is empowered to form an international alliance to ensure that the next Dalai Lama is chosen only by the Tibetan Buddhist community. It proposes assistance to non-governmental organizations in support of the Tibetan community in Tibet. There is talk of a ban on new Chinese consulates in the United States until the American Consulate is established in Lhasa, Tibet.
