History
World Humanitarian Day was first observed by the United Nations General Assembly. For this, a resolution was passed in the year 2008. Which was sponsored by Sweden. 18 years ago, on this day i.e. August 19, 2003, the United Nations Head Quarter was attacked in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. The attack killed 22 UN Headquarters personnel, including Sergio Vieira de Mello, Special Representative of the UNO Secretary-General in Iraq. After which it was decided to celebrate 19th August as World Humanity Day.

Purpose
Today the lack of humanity is being felt in every country of the world. Despite being human, people are beyond the sense of humanity. The more people are progressing, the less the sense of humanity in their minds is decreasing. People don’t want to come forward to help each other. World Humanitarian Day is celebrated all over the world on the 19th of August to inculcate the spirit of humanity in the hearts of such people.
