New Delhi: Twitter and Tesla Chief Elon Musk have started delivery of the company’s first heavy duty all-electric semi truck. The event took place in the US and the company is looking to capitalize on the commercial segment and replace it with its EV option. Musk claims that the truck can offer a driving range of up to 500 miles (about 805 km).
Tesla’s electric semi truck was initially planned to be launched in the year 2019, but the lack of battery production extended the delivery time. The emissions of the electric semi-truck will be very less as compared to the diesel vehicles.
Features
The new truck will get features like regenerative braking to recharge the truck’s battery on the go. In terms of power, Musk claims that the new semi-truck is almost three times more powerful than a diesel truck. Tesla has also announced that it will use semi-trucks to carry its own passenger vehicles.
Powerful performance
During the launch event, the Tesla truck was showcased for traveling more than 500 miles on a single charge with a full load. This semi truck can accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in just 20 seconds, fully loaded.
Tesla Semi comes with some standard active safety features. The truck comes with a central seating position which gives better vision to the driver while driving. Additionally, according to the EV company, an all-electric architecture offers better rollover safety in case of an accident.
