New Delhi: The Supreme Court has got two new judges. The Center has appointed Telangana High Court Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Kerala High Court Chief Justice SV Bhatti as judges of the Supreme Court of India.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments of Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan and Justice S Venkatanarayan Bhatti on Twitter.
The elevation of Telangana High Court Chief Justice Bhuiyan and his Kerala High Court counterpart Justice Bhatti to the top court was recommended by the Supreme Court collegium on July 5.
The total sanctioned strength of judges in the apex court is 34 including the Chief Justice, but at present it is functioning with 30 judges. With Justice Bhuiyan and Justice Bhatti taking the oath, the strength of judges in the apex court will increase to 32, leaving only two vacancies.
