New Delhi: The Parliamentary Committee on IT Affairs headed by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has summoned Facebook India and Google India. Both the companies have been called to discuss the issue of misuse of social media and protecting the rights of citizens. The Parliamentary Standing Committee attached to the Ministry of Information Technology has called these two giant social media platforms before the committee, where the views of Facebook and Google will be heard. This meeting will be held tomorrow i.e. Tuesday at 4 pm.

The meeting is taking place in the backdrop of alleged misuse of the social media platform and the government’s ongoing tussle with Twitter. Earlier, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said on Friday after Twitter blocked the account of Union Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for an hour, saying the same thing happened to him and now the Parliamentary Standing Committee on this micro-blogging website. Will ask for clarification regarding this.

Ravi Shankar Prasad did the tweet
Actually, Ravi Shankar Prasad tweeted and informed about the temporary closure of his account. He said, friends! Something very unique happened today. Twitter blocked access to my account for about an hour based on an alleged violation of the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), and they later allowed me to use the account.
