New Delhi: India’s tennis star Sania Mirza has announced her retirement. The Australian Open would be the last tennis tournament of his career. Sania Mirza has shared this information by posting on Twitter. Earlier, the tennis star had announced that she would retire after the WTA 1000 Dubai Tennis Championship, which begins on February 19. But now Sania decided to end her career only after the Australian Open.
Sharing the post on Twitter, she said that she would like to spend more time with her son after the Australian Open. Whereas he wrote, ’30 years ago a six-year-old girl from Hyderabad went on the court for the first time with her mother and the coach explained how to play tennis. I thought I was too young to learn tennis. The fight for my dreams started at the age of 6 itself.
In her post, Sania said, ‘This would not have been possible without the support of my parents and sister, my family, my coach, physio and the entire team who stood by me in good and bad times. I have shared my laughter, tears, pain, and joy with each and every one of them. I want to thank everyone for that. You all have helped me through the most difficult phase of my life. You not only gave this little girl from Hyderabad the courage to dream but also helped her achieve those dreams.
Last tournament of my career
Sania further wrote, ‘I am getting ready to play my last Australian Open 18 years after playing my first Australian Open. Perhaps, being the most special. I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished in my professional career over the last 20 years and I’m so grateful for the memories I’ve been able to make. The biggest memory that will stay with me for the rest of my life is the pride and joy I saw on the faces of my fellow countrymen and supporters whenever I won and reached milestones in my long career.
