Railways ended 50 percent concession for Senior citizens

New Delhi: According to the big news, the Indian Railways has completely abolished the exemption being given in the fares of all categories except four categories including people with disabilities, people suffering from serious illness, students. In this regard, the 50% discount is given to the elderly who are above 60 years of age is also included at present.

In this regard, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in Parliament that giving discounts on tickets incurs a huge cost on the railways and creates additional pressure. Therefore, for all categories of passengers, including senior citizens, now it is not rational to increase such exemption.

Along with this, the Railway Minister said that keeping in mind the declining earnings of the Railways, this important decision has been taken. It is worth noting that in March 2020, after the closure of trains for a few days due to Corona, the Railways had completely stopped all concessions in fares when they started again.

Let us tell you that before the beginning of the epidemic in the country, before March 2020, senior citizens of the country were given the necessary concession in train fare. But after the epidemic, in order to earn big money through passenger fare, the railways have not yet reinstated the concession in fare to senior citizens.

Due to this, as soon as the railways resumed train services in a phased manner during the pandemic. But then the Ministry of Railways gradually stopped all except 15 out of about 53 services provided to passengers. Presently the subsidized services include facilities provided to 4 differently-abled, 11 students, and patients. The concession in the remaining 38 types of services is still completely closed.
