Dubai: Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa of Bahrain passed away on Wednesday. He was 84 years old. Khalifa was one of the longest-serving prime ministers in the world, leading his nation’s government for decades.
Allegations of corruption during the 2011 Arab Uprising also led to their removal. Bahrain’s state news agency announced his death, saying Khalifa was being treated at the Mayo Clinic in the United States. Glimpses of Prince Khalifa’s strength and wealth can be seen all over this small country.
His portrait with the ruler of the country continued to beautify the government walls for many decades. The caliph had a private island of his own where he met foreign visitors. The prince represented the old tradition of leadership in the Gulf, rewarding those who supported the Sunni Al Khalifa family. However, his methods were challenged during the 2011 protests.
