Kanpur: These days in Uttar Pradesh, the news of Income Tax raids on the premises of perfume trader Piyush Jain of Kanpur is in constant headlines. He has been arrested on charges of tax evasion after getting assets worth Rs 257 crore from Jain’s hideouts. Surendra Kumar, Joint Commissioner of GST in Kanpur told that Piyush Jain can be arrested and taken from Kanpur to Ahmedabad for further proceedings.
At the same time, another official said on the condition of anonymity that a total of Rs 257 crore, including gold and silver, have been recovered during the raid at various locations of Piyush Jain since Thursday. He said that the recovered amount is allegedly related to sending the goods by a goods transporter with fake invoices and without an e-way bill.
Sources said that in a joint raid by GST Intelligence, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), and Income Tax Department at Piyush Jain’s residence in Kannauj, about Rs 110 crore in cash and 250 kg of silver and 25 kg of gold were found. This joint raid has been named Operation Big Bazaar.
Sources said that the biggest amount in Raid was found from inside the wall in Piyush Jain’s bedroom. Apart from this, some money was also found from the hole made inside the stairs. About 10 laborers were employed to break the walls here. These people were busy breaking the walls and lockers with gas welding cutters and chisel-hammers. Five artisans have been engaged to make duplicate keys to open the doors.
