New Delhi: Currently, the third phase of vaccination has started in India from today, in which the vaccine is to be given to people between 18 years and 44 years. However, many states will not be able to get vaccination due to the lack of vaccines at present. Meanwhile, the big news is that the Serum Institute of India (SII), the manufacturer of the Covishield vaccine, is now considering the production of the vaccine in other countries outside India as well. It is also believed that this is being considered to further increase the vaccine’s production capacity.

In fact, Adar Poonawala, CEO of Serum Institute of India (SII), said in an interview with The Times that now the company is also working on plans to make AstraZeneca vaccine in other countries. In his interview with The Times last Friday, he said that a big announcement is going to be made in the next few days. It may be noted that SII manufactures the AstraZeneca vaccine in India under the name ‘Covishield’.

According to news agency Reuters, the CEO of SII, Adar Poonawala, said last week that the Serum Institute would increase its monthly output (production) to 100 million doses by July. Earlier, he had told the timeline of May-end to do so. But now many states of India are also getting vaccinated, due to which the third phase of vaccination is not being started in many states from today.

Adar Poonawala also hoped that the production capacity of the serum would be 2.5 billion to 3 billion doses annually over the next six months. Significantly, India is now witnessing a huge increase in cases of corona infection. In the last 24 hours, the country received more than 4 lakh cases of corona in a single day, which is a new record in itself, which is definitely a matter of fear and concern now.
