New Delhi: The newly formed National Medical Commission (NMC) has removed the requirement of a minimum of five acres of land for opening a new medical college and its affiliated teaching hospitals while making it mandatory to set up skill laboratories. Has given. The Ministry of Health said on Saturday that the NMC (MBBS) was constituted on September 25, 2020, and has released a detailed list of requirements for setting up new medical colleges.

According to the new notified rules, the number of beds in a medical college hospital has been reduced from 530 to 430 for a 100-seat college and from 930 to 830 for a 200-seat college. The number of beds in many departments of a teaching hospital has been changed according to the number of students admitted throughout the year, time spent in clinical specialties etc. The number of human resources of the teaching faculty has also been changed under the new rules. The Ministry said that new standards have been defined keeping in view the working needs of the institutions.

He said, “Taking important steps towards affordable medical education, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has notified the preliminary key rules. The notification titled ‘Minimum Requirements for Annual MBBS Admission Rules (2020)’ will replace the previous Indian Council of Medical Sciences (MCI) ‘Minimum Standard Requirements for Medical Colleges, 1999’. It said that the provision of land perimeter required for setting up of a medical college and its affiliated training hospitals has been removed in the new rules.
