New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has said that foreign medical graduate students who could not complete their ‘internship’ due to extreme circumstances like Covid-19 or war, can complete it in India. The NMC said in a circular that state medical councils will also follow the same provided the student has passed the foreign medical graduate examination before applying for completion of internship in India.
He said, “There are also some foreign students whose internship could not be completed due to unforeseen circumstances like Kovid-19 or war. Considering the hardships and pressure on those foreign medical students, their applications to complete the remaining internship in India will be valid. ,
The move will help medical students who were studying in several colleges in Ukraine and had to leave their studies midway and return to the country due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “The State Medical Council should ensure that the students seeking registration in India have passed the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). State Medical Councils may grant alternate registration for 12 months or for the remaining period if students meet the criteria. ,
The NMC said that the State Medical Council will take in writing from the medical college that they will not charge any fee for conducting internships to foreign medical students.
