According to the police, due to illegal oil and bhangar warehouses, chemical companies, this Kurla Scrap Cup is set on fire 2-3 times a year.

What is Kurla Scrap Cupound
Around 15,000 square feet of Kurla ScrapCound collector located at Mankhurd comes under the illegal possession of this cup land in large quantities of warehouses of West Oil drums, duplicate chemical and soap making companies, Putt, junk and wood. Along with the bakhar, there is a large scale bhangar shop and the junk items are kept. There is a slum area on either side of the Kurla Scrap Cupound where more than 10 thousand families live.

All the heavy trains from Chheda Nagar and Vashi towards Mankhurd were diverted to another route as soon as the news of fire broke out at Kurla Scrap Cupound which affected the traffic in Mumbai. Mankhurd and Trombay Traffic Police had installed Berry Gate in place so that the highway was not jammed. Work was done to remove all the trains standing from the spot to about five kilometers. So that fire crews, ambulances and vehicles involved in rescue operations do not face traffic.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar visited Kurla Scrap Compound and said that this collector land is occupied by land mafia, many illegal possession of godowns have been built here and the number of companies making duplicate goods is also high. . The way frequent fires occur here, it threatens the lives of the local people living nearby. How this fire was set or by whom will be investigated.

We have several times taken action against the oil warehouse owner of the Kurla Scrap Compound, the makers of chemical and counterfeit goods. Being aware of such an accident, I have also complained to the Collector several times that action should be taken against these land mafias and illegal companies etc. because of their negligence, thousands of families living around the compound. The fear of danger to the lives of the people remains at all times.

Prakash Chaugule – Senior Police Inspector Mankhurd Police Station

The fire started at around 2:44 pm from a wooden warehouse at Kurla Scrap Compound but due to a lack of a way for the fire brigade to reach the spot, the vehicles could not reach it at the right time. Taking a more formidable form, the police, with the help of JCB, made way for the fire brigade by removing the junk, brittle and big wood lying on the way. About 20 tankers and 25 fire engines were called from a fire brigade from Byculla, Mulund, Vikhroli, Chembur, and Mankhurd in Mumbai so that the fire did not go towards the areas of the residence, so the fire crews surrounded the fire with the help of water. But the fire could not be extinguished until the news was written.

This is not a new thing, the Kurla Scrap Cup is set on fire 2-3 times every year, but there is no strict action against these people by the police and BAMC, only the matter is reported, we are always in the shadow of death. We live when the flames reach our house and we are crucified in the name of the accident. Even after the fire today, we first moved our family out of the house and took out the necessary items, and moved to a safe place with our family, because anything can happen here anytime. The administration also does not take any strict action against them while the Mankhurd police and officials of the M (East) Ward BAMC office are aware of what happens in this illegally settled Kurla Scrap Cup.

Mandala and transit camps endemic
Our first priority is to save lives and control the fire as soon as possible, after that the case will be investigated and action will be taken against whoever is responsible, there is no news of anyone being injured, rescue work is going on now.
