Haridwar: A major accident has taken place in the Niti Valley in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Here the destruction of the glacier has caused havoc in the surrounding area. Many people are feared to be flowing. An alert has also been issued in Haridwar district after the accident. The Haridwar DM has ordered the Ganga Ghats to be evacuated. Preparations are being made to shift people living on the banks of Ganga to government buildings. After breaking the glacier, the Alaknanda Nandi is flowing at high speed. After this, the water level of the Ganges is also expected to rise in the plains. People have been asked to be cautious about this.

On the other hand, an alert has also been issued in Rishikesh. River rafting has been banned in rivers here. It is feared that the water of the broken glacier will reach Rishikesh in the next 15 hours. The administration has started arrangements to save the people from this loss. Preparations are being made to shift from thereby alerting the people of the lower area. The administration claims that their team is trying to do the least harm.


On Sunday, a huge glacier burst above Pang Village, 24 km from Joshimath in Chamoli, causing a sudden flood in the Dholi river. The Rishi Ganga Power Project has suffered heavy losses due to glacier flooding. Along with this, some suspension bridges have also come in its grip. Apart from this, the dam side barrage site of the under-construction Tapovan Vishnugadh hydropower project is also being reported to be damaged. The administration has alerted the people living along the banks of the Alaknanda River and the Dhauli River, they are being asked to move away.
