New Delhi: The cold outbreak increased on Wednesday as the minimum temperature reached 3.5 degrees Celsius in Delhi. According to the Meteorological Department, cold winds may increase chill in the national capital before the new year. Safdarjung observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The meteorological center at Zafarpur and Lodhi Road recorded minimum temperatures of 3.5 degrees and 3.7 degrees Celsius respectively. Visibility decreased to 50 meters in the Palam area due to increasing fog during the night. However, at nine in the morning, the visibility level increased to 400 meters.

When the minimum temperature in the plains falls below four degrees Celsius, a cold wave and severe cold conditions are declared below two degrees. According to the Meteorological Department, cold conditions will prevail in the city in the next two days. Kuldeep Srivastava, head of the regional forecast center of the Meteorological Department (IMD), said that the north-northwest winds were blowing from the Himalayas, causing a drop in temperature in North India. The lowest temperature ever recorded was 3.4 degrees Celsius on 20 December at Safdarjung Observatory. In December this year, the average minimum temperature (7.06 ° C) is lower than the previous year’s average minimum temperature of 7.6 degrees.
