Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang said on Saturday that so far at least eight people have been found infected with the Delta Plus version of the coronavirus in the state. However, no person in contact with these patients has been found to be infected with this variant of the virus. According to officials, two people who died in May this year were found infected with the Delta Plus variant.

Talking to reporters, Sarang said that the patients infected with the Delta Plus variant are being tested as per the guidelines and the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) is regularly sharing information in this regard to the state. “At least eight cases of the Delta Plus variant of the coronavirus have come to our notice and our focus is to expedite testing,” he said. He said that the officials who came in contact with these patients have been traced and none of them have been found infected.

The Minister further said that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has decided to set up a laboratory in Bhopal for genome sequencing so that test reports can be obtained at the earliest.

Meanwhile, officials said that two persons who died in May this year were found infected with the Delta Plus variant and were residents of Ashok Nagar and Ujjain. He told that he died in the month of May but his report of being infected with the Delta Plus version was received later.

According to the Health Department, 50 new cases of Covid-19 were found in Madhya Pradesh on Friday, while 22 people died and with this, the total number of corona infected in the state increased to 7,89,611 and the number of people who died due to this epidemic so far. 8,871 has gone up.
