Delhi-NCR: All schools and colleges now closed till further orders, restrictions on offices and construction

New Delhi: The Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) late on Tuesday night directed that schools, colleges and educational institutions in the National Capital Region (NCR) will remain closed till further orders and only online education will be allowed. The commission directed that out of 11 thermal power plants located within 300 km radius of Delhi, only five – NTPC, Jhajjar, Mahatma Gandhi TPS, CLP Jhajjar, Panipat TPS, HPGCL, Nabha Power Limited TPS, Rajpura and Talwandi Sabo TPS, Mansa Will be open till 30th November.

The commission has directed the states falling in Delhi and NCR to comply with “C&D” waste management rules and dust control norms in the region till November 21 on “Railway services or railway stations, Metro Rail Corporation services, stations, airports and inter- All activities related to construction and demolition, including State Bus Terminals (ISBTS) and except activities related to national security or defense or projects of national importance, have been directed to stop.

To check the rising level of air pollution, the entry of trucks carrying non-essential goods has been banned in Delhi till Sunday. The commission held a meeting on Tuesday with senior officials of Delhi and NCR states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan regarding severe air pollution in the region, ahead of the Supreme Court hearing on the matter. “All public and private schools, colleges, and educational institutions in NCR will remain closed till further orders and only online education will be allowed,” the CAQM instructions said.

The governments of the states falling in NCR have been directed to allow work from home with at least 50 percent attendance of their employees in offices in NCR till Sunday and encourage private establishments to follow this rule. . “All industries still using unapproved fuel in NCR will be closed with immediate effect by the respective governments… There will be strict restrictions on the use of DG sets except for state and GNCTD emergency services in NCR,” the commission said.

Authorities in the NCR have been ordered to ensure that diesel and petrol vehicles older than 10 years and 15 years respectively are not found plying on the road. The Delhi government has been directed to procure a sufficient number of CNG buses at the earliest and take them off the roads. The Chief Secretaries of Delhi and NCR states have been directed to monitor the implementation of the directions on a regular basis and file compliance reports before the Commission on Monday.

The Delhi government had ordered the closure of direct classes in schools, colleges, and other educational institutions for a week from Monday. All government offices, agencies, and autonomous bodies have been asked to work from home except those involved in essential services.
