Indore: Devi Ahilya University is preparing to start the process of granting admission in 12 departments on merit basis soon. The university has filed a petition in the High Court for its permission. A hearing in the case is likely next week. On the other hand, preparations are being made to ask students for 34 courses from August 14.

Last year, the online CET court was revoked after a technical glitch and gave a decision to grant admission on the basis of merit. The court also directed that admissions from next year should be given through the entrance examination. University administration agreed to conduct CET this year. Negotiations were also held with the National Testing Agency for this, but three months of academic and administrative work was affected due to Corona infection. There was a meeting of the Heads of Departments in June, in which some Heads of Departments suggested admission on merit basis. Registrar in-charge Anil Sharma told about the High Court order last year, in which he asked for court approval for merit.

After discussion, the university agreed to grant admission from CET itself. Then a meeting was held in August, after which the university, which was in a dilemma after discussion, decided to enroll in the major 12 departments on the basis of merit again in the session 2020-21. However, before this, the university has to tell this whole situation before the High Court. VC Prof. Renu Jain says that the university has petitioned for approval on the process, in which all the points have been informed to the court.

Rules for merit
This time the university has made a slight change in the rules for granting admission on the basis of merit. Previously, the merit list was prepared on the basis of the previous results in all courses, but this time it is suggested to make merit on the number of 12th and 10th in UG course and UG and 12th marks in PG. This proposal has been sent to the Vice-Chancellor.

There will be 2300 seats
Departments in which admission will be given on merit basis. They include two other departments including IIPS, IMS, EMRC, Law, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Commerce, Social Science, Journalism. Applications will be called in about 2300 seats. The university has not increased the registration fee. Like last year, this time too, students will have to pay a fee of Rs 1500 for online application. Member of Admissions Committee, Dr. Kanhaiya Ahuja said that the process is in the final stage.
