Mumbai: The third wave of Covid-19 has started in the country and as before, Maharashtra and Mumbai are at their center. Maharashtra had 11,877 cases on Sunday, which is the highest in the country. Of these, 8,000 cases have been confirmed only in Mumbai. Despite this, BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) commissioner IS Chahal claims that most of the cases coming up in the metropolis are not serious and about 91 percent of the cases are asymptomatic.

Chahal quoted experts from the state-level task force as saying that 80 percent of the total cases reported in Mumbai are from Omicron, the remaining 20 percent are from others. According to him, there are currently 29,300 active cases of corona in Mumbai. In the last two days, 8,063 and 6,347 new cases have been reported respectively. Of these, 91 percent of cases are without symptoms.

‘Not a single patient was admitted to the ICU’
According to him, since most of the cases are from Omicron, there is no need for much medicine, etc. The remaining 9 to 10 percent of the people are with symptoms of the corona. Of these, only 504 people have been admitted to the hospital. Out of these, only 56 have needed oxygen beds in the hospital, while not a single patient has been admitted to the ICU.

’95 percent of the infected do not need to go to the hospital’
Chahal said that this means that 95 percent of the infected do not need to go to the hospital. He told, “Even though the cases are showing more, but there is no pressure on the hospitals as before. At present, 90 percent of the beds in Mumbai hospitals are vacant, while the need for oxygen is negligible.

However, he also said that even though there is no need to panic due to the increasing cases of the corona at this time, but there is a complete need to be careful and take precautions.
