Bhopal: Due to the devastation caused by floods in the Gwalior-Chambal divisions of Madhya Pradesh for the last three days, so far 12 people have died and seven people have been injured. However, on Thursday, the rescue operation has now ended in both these divisions and relief work has been started. Gwalior division commissioner Ashish Saxena told PTI over the phone, “Till Wednesday, 12 people have been reported dead in rain-related incidents till yesterday. There has been no report of any other death on Thursday.

Saxena is looking after the Gwalior division as well as the Chambal division. He said that these deaths were due to the collapse of walls and houses in both these divisions as well as due to negligence of the people. Giving examples about the deaths due to the carelessness of the people, he said that a person had gone to take pleasure in an overflowing reservoir and drowned, while some people died while crossing the overflowing bridges.

Saxena said that three people from Bhind have been rescued today by helicopters and shifted to safer places. He said that food items were being dropped by army aircraft in the worst affected districts of Sheopur and Datia.

Meanwhile, state revenue secretary Dnyaneshwar B Patil said, “Seven people were injured in the floods, including four in Guna, two in Shivpuri, and one in Morena.”

He said that the rescue operation is almost over and relief work has been started. Patil informed that 30,790 flood-affected people from Gwalior and Chambal divisions have either been shifted to safer places or have been rescued. He said around 6,000 people have been kept in 126 relief camps.

Patil said that 287 domestic animals have died, including 125 in Sheopur, 76 in Shivpuri, 75 in Datia, Nau Guna, and two in Morena districts. He said that about 18,304 kutcha and pucca houses have been damaged. Of these, 15,000 are in Sheopur, 2,124 in Datia, 672 in Shivpuri, 456 in Guna, and 52 in Ashoknagar district.

Patil said that four major bridges and 21 medium bridges have also suffered damage in Sheopur and Datia districts, while reports from other districts are awaited. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “The state government will compensate for any kind of loss. Financial relief will be provided under the provisions of the Revenue Book Circular by assessing all those whose houses, items, utensils, clothes, etc. have been destroyed.

Chouhan said, “The relief amount will be distributed to the farmers whose crops have been destroyed, after conducting a survey at the earliest. Those whose wells and tube wells have been destroyed will be given financial assistance of Rs 25,000, 30,000 on the death of cattle, cow, buffalo, bull, etc., as well as Rs 10,000 on the death of a small animal. Apart from this, if the goat, goat, and rooster-hen would have died, then the government will also give financial relief to their owners.
