According to Pew Research, 32 million people in India have been pushed back from the middle-class category due to the Corona crisis and are now in the poor category. According to this research, during the Corona period, the number of middle-class earners of $ 10 to $ 20 per day has fallen by about three crore 20 lakhs. Prior to the Corona period, there were about 990 million people in the middle-class category in India and now their number has come down to around 6 crores 60 lakhs.

6.2 crore people fall in the middle-class category
According to research, due to the coronavirus, 6.2 million people in the high-income category fell into the middle-class category in the country. According to this research, there are those in the high-income category who earn, according to an estimate, about Rs 3630.50 a day. Quoting World Bank forecasts, Pew said in his research, “There is an estimate that the slowdown in the Corona epidemic will result in the more middle-class reduction and more poverty in India than China.” Let us tell you that between 2011 and 2019, about five crores 70 lakh people had joined the middle-class category.

The government took many steps to support the economy
Prime Minister Modi’s government has taken several steps to support the country’s economy, anticipating a contraction of eight percent this fiscal year. However, the slowdown caused by the coronavirus has pushed progress back years.
