Cape Canaveral: The world’s largest and most powerful space telescope has been launched by NASA. This telescope will help to see the light from the first stars and galaxies, as well as to get to know the universe more closely for signs of life. The European Ariane rocket will take off from French Guiana in South America carrying the James Webb Space Telescope.

With the launch, it left to reach its destination located 1.6 million kilometers away, or more than four times as far from the Moon. It will take a month to reach there, in addition to another five months so that its infrared eyes can be fully prepared to start scanning the universe.

“It’s going to give us a better understanding of our universe and our place in it: who we are, what we are, the discovery that is eternal,” NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said earlier this week. But he cautioned, “When you want a big reward, you usually have to take a big risk.”

Webb is believed to be the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope and was initially scheduled to launch on December 18, but was delayed by four days and then two more days due to technical glitches.
