Train Services restored suburban train service for essential personnel
Mumbai: Central and Western Railways on Monday resumed selected suburban train service to facilitate the arrival of personnel from Maharashtra connected with essential services. A senior official said that the Central Railway and Western Railway have decided to restore ‘selected suburban services’ on the main line and harbor line only for those essential personnel who fall within the definition of the state government. With this, the official said that this morning the first train left from Virar to Churchgate.
Central Railway and Western Railway tweeted, “The operation of selected suburban trains on the main and harbor lines from June 15 will be decided only for movement under standard operating procedures and regulations.” Railways tweeted that the state government has identified who can travel on these trains and requested to keep a valid ticket together to avoid any inconvenience. These trains have a seating capacity of 1,200 people but now only 7,00 people can board the train.
Partly due to the resumption of trains, 1.25 lakh personnel of essential services in the state government will get relief. The officer said that admission will be given at the stations based on the identity card of the employees. Western Railway will run 73 pairs of suburban services, of which eight are between Virar and Dahanu Road. The train will run from 5:30 in the morning to 15:30 at 11:30 in the night. On Sunday, 3,390 cases of infection were reported on Sunday in Maharashtra and now the number of infected has gone up to 1,07,958. At the same time 3,950 people have died so far.
