Mumbai: Several Bollywood filmmakers, actors, and the Multiplex Association of India on Sunday urged the Center to allow theaters to open which are closed due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The lockdown was implemented from 25 March in the country to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The government started opening it in a phased manner from the month of June and allowed the opening of offices, markets, shopping complexes, etc. in domestic air travel and non-prohibited areas.

Opening of theaters is not allowed in the guidelines issued by the government for ‘Unlock-4’. MAI tweeted with the hashtag “Support Movie Theaters” that the cinema industry is not only an inherent part of the nation’s culture, but also an integral part of the economy that “drives the livelihoods of millions of people.”

It said, “Cinemas have been allowed to open in most countries. We also urge the Government of India to allow theaters to open. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy cinema experience. ” The association said, “If the metro, malls and restaurants can be allowed to open, then the cinema industry is also entitled to an opportunity.” People like filmmakers Boney Kapoor, Praveen Dabas and Shibashish Sarkar supported the demand to allow theaters to open.
