Colombo: The incumbent Mrs. World Caroline Jury and one of her accomplices were arrested on Thursday for allegedly hurting a contestant and damaging property in a beauty contest held here last week. (Arrest) has been done. The jury and former model Chula Padmendra performed on stage last Saturday. During this, Pushpika De Silva was declared the winner of Mrs. Srilanka’s beauty contest.
The jury had said that DeSilva is divorced and only married women are allowed to participate in this competition. He then forcibly took the title of winner of DeSilva and placed it on the head of the runner-up contestant and declared him the winner.
DeSilva filed a police complaint in this case after which the organizers returned him the crown of the winner. “We have taken Mrs Jury and Chula Padmendra into custody,” said a police officer here. The jury and Padmendra are accused of causing damage to property and injuring DeSilva at the Neelam Pokuna Theater in the competition venue.
