Patna: Despite the global epidemic Corona Virus infection, this time more people exercised their franchise in the Bihar Assembly Elections than in 2015. This time the percentage of voting in the state was 57.05. This has become clear in the data of the Election Commission. According to the data of the commission, in the assembly elections held in Bihar in 2015, 56.66 percent of voters had exercised their franchise, while this year 57.05 percent voting took place despite Covid-19.
According to the data, the number of female voters (59.69 percent) this year was higher than the number of male voters (54.68 percent) in the polls which ended in three phases. The third phase of Bihar Assembly elections this year saw a relatively high turnout on November 7, which included 78 seats in 15 districts of Kosi-Seemanchal, Mithilanchal, and Tirhut. The turnout in the third phase was around 60 percent while in the first phase it was 55.68 percent and in the second phase, it was 55.70 percent.
In last year’s Lok Sabha Elections, the turnout was 57.33 percent. Sources said that re-polling has not been ordered in any of the constituencies in which polling took place under the third phase. He said that in the third phase, election observers and returning officers have completed the investigation and no recommendation has been made. This was the first major election in the country amid the Kovid-19 epidemic and for the convenience of the people in view, the commission had extended the polling period by one hour this time.
