It is noteworthy that the Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday decided to rename the newly created Konaseema district as Dr. BR Ambedkar Konseema district. Notification in this regard was expected to be issued soon. The government’s decision to change the name of the district came after demands from various parties, Dalit groups, and people’s representatives.
Earlier some organizations had also protested and demanded the government to change the name of the district to Dr. B R Ambedkar Konseema district. On April 4, 12 other districts including the Konaseema district were created by the state government. After which the total number of districts in the state increased to 26.
