New Delhi: As the summer season commences, Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to tackle a substantial backlog of vehicle orders. The company is currently facing a pending order list that totals approximately 2,00,000 units. A significant portion of these orders, around 60,000, is attributed to Maruti Suzuki’s popular 7-seater model, the Ertiga. The demand for CNG vehicles is particularly strong, with pending orders for these variants reaching 1,10,000 units.

In response to the overwhelming demand, Maruti Suzuki has initiated a new assembly line at its Manesar plant. This addition is expected to boost the plant’s production capacity by 1,00,000 units, primarily to expedite the delivery of the Ertiga. The company has set an ambitious target to sell 6,00,000 CNG cars in the fiscal year 2025, with the Ertiga expected to contribute significantly to this goal. The surge in demand for the Ertiga CNG model is a testament to the market’s growing preference for eco-friendly and cost-effective transportation solutions.

Ertiga’s CNG Variant Fuels Sales Surge

Maruti Suzuki projects that the total sales of the Ertiga will surpass the 10 lakh mark in 2024, with a considerable number of these sales coming from the CNG variant. The Ertiga’s journey to this milestone began in 2019 when the model achieved sales of 5 lakh units. The introduction of the CNG variant in February 2020 marked a turning point, as it significantly accelerated sales. Remarkably, it took just 4 years for the Ertiga to double its sales from 5 lakh to 10 lakh units, a feat that previously took over 7 years.

The Ertiga’s success story is further highlighted by its sales figures in recent months, with consistent sales of over 12,000 units per month, peaking at 15,519 units in February 2024. This performance cements the Ertiga’s position as a leader in the MPV segment and a preferred choice among consumers seeking reliable and sustainable vehicles.

Maruti Suzuki’s strategic focus on the CNG market aligns with the increasing consumer demand for vehicles that offer both economic and environmental benefits. With the Ertiga leading the charge, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend and achieve its sales objectives in the coming years.
