Madras, Bombay and Delhi IITs topped ARIAIA rankings

New Delhi: The Madras, Bombay, and Delhi IITs (IITs) declared the top three positions respectively in the Atal Innovation Achievement Institute Rankings 2020 announced on Tuesday in the category of Institutions of National Importance. Atal Innovation Achievement Institute Ranking (ARIIA) is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, implemented by AICTE and the Innovation Cell of the Ministry. It provides systemic rankings to higher education institutions and universities based on indicators related to innovation, startup, and entrepreneurship development among students and faculties in the country.

Under this, the award was given under six categories, including a special category for higher educational institutions with women only. The purpose of this special category is to encourage women and bring gender equality in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship. Apart from this, the other five categories include centrally funded institutions, state-funded universities, state-funded autonomous institutions, private / deemed universities and private institutions.

IISc, Bangalore secured fourth place and IIT Kharagpur was ranked fifth in the Center of National Importance funded by the Center. Seven IITs made it to the top 10 list in this category. The Institute of Chemical Technology, Maharashtra topped the state-funded university category followed by Punjab University and Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University.

The College of Engineering Pune topped the state-funded autonomous institute category followed by PES College of Engineering, Karnataka and Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu. Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Odisha topped the private / deemed university category. The Avinashilingam Institute of Home Science and Higher Education topped a special category for women-only higher educational institutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said, “This ranking is in the name of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.” Under his leadership, India had taken many important steps forward in the field of innovation. The Atal Innovation Achievement Institute ranking gives us an opportunity to celebrate it. He said that the new national education policy has given a lot of attention to innovation. The National Research Foundation will be set up to pursue innovation.

Releasing the ARIAIA rankings, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said, “Innovation has always been an important element of human progress. India has a rich history ranging from the invention of zero to innovation. India was known as Vishwaguru. We need to regain that intellectual leadership. We need to re-emerge as centers of knowledge and innovation. “

The Vice President said, “We have a lot of talented youngsters here who are full of new ideas and they have the desire and passion to implement such ideas while moving on a new path.” Youth will define the future of our country. They need to be given encouragement, convenience and recognition. They need to be provided with the necessary guidance and freedom to find a new plank. “
