New Delhi: The common man in India has been hit hard by the sharp rise in the prices of LPG cylinders, which are used for cooking and heating purposes. The price of LPG cylinder has increased by Rs 25.50 in the capital Delhi and metropolitan Mumbai, effective from today, March 1, 2024. This is the second hike in LPG cylinder prices in less than a month, as the oil marketing companies raised the prices by Rs 25 on February 4, 2024.

The increase in LPG cylinder prices has affected the entire country, including Ahmedabad, Meerut, Delhi, Jaipur, Indore, Lucknow, Agra, Mumbai, and other cities. The prices of commercial LPG cylinders, which are used by hotels, restaurants, and other businesses, have also increased. However, there has been no change in the prices of domestic LPG cylinders, which are subsidized by the government.

The current price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi is Rs 903, while in Kolkata it is Rs 929. In Mumbai, the price is Rs 902.50, and in Chennai, it is Rs 918.50. The last revision in domestic LPG cylinder prices was on August 30, 2023, when the prices were reduced by Rs 200. On March 1, 2023, the price of LPG in Delhi was Rs 1,103 per cylinder.

The rise in LPG cylinder prices is attributed to the increase in international crude oil prices, which have surged by more than 50% since November 2023. The oil marketing companies revise the LPG cylinder prices every month based on the average international benchmark rate and the foreign exchange rate.
