Gandhinagar: Gujarat’s Gandhinagar sessions court sentenced Asaram to life imprisonment in another case. In the case of the rape of a disciple, this case going on against Asaram was 22 years old. Asaram was accused of rape and unnatural acts by a Surat-based student. This incident took place in Asaram’s ashram in Ahmedabad.
After the incident, the victim remained silent due to fear. When cases were registered against Asaram at other places, the victim lodged an FIR in this case also in 2013. After this, the case was transferred to the Chandkheda police station in Ahmedabad and since then the trial of the case was going on in the Gandhinagar court. According to the government lawyer, the court has convicted Asaram under sections 342, 357, 376, and 377. Today the punishment was announced in this case.
What was the whole matter?
According to the victim, ‘On the day of Gurupurnima, Asaram chose me as the speaker. After this, I was called to Asaram’s farmhouse Shanti Vatika. Another person from the ashram took me to Asaram’s farmhouse. Where Asaram washed his hands and feet and called me inside the room. Later asked me to order a bowl of ghee. After this Asaram asked for a head massage. While massaging, Asaram started doing dirty acts. I tried to run away but Asaram forced me to surrender. After this, Asaram also committed unnatural rape after forcibly raping her. In 2013, the victim lodged an FIR in this case.
Now know the story of Asaram
Asaram’s full name is Asoomal Thaumal Sirumalani. Asaram was born on 17 April 1941 in the Berani village of Nawabshah district of British India, which is now a part of Pakistan. Mother’s name was Mahagarba and father’s name was Thomas Sirumalani.
During the partition of India-Pakistan in 1947, Asaram’s family settled in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Since everything was left in Pakistan itself, the financial condition of Asaram’s family had worsened. Then Asa ram’s father started a sugar business in Ahmedabad.
After the death of his father, Asaram learned meditation, yoga, and spirituality from his mother. As soon as he was educated by his mother, Asaram left his family and went on a tour of the country. After this Asaram started giving religious discourses. In the 1970s, he started his journey from a small cottage on the banks of the Sabarmati river. Gradually Asaram became famous among the people. A large number of people started becoming his followers. The biggest leaders and officers started attending Asaram’s court.
In fact, Asaram has been in controversies many times. There were many types of allegations, but the allegations against him in 2013 changed the whole story. In August 2013, a minor girl accused Asaram of rape. On August 19, the girl’s relatives reached Delhi to meet Asaram, but he refused. Then the relatives of the girl lodged a complaint with the Kamla Nagar police station in Delhi. On August 20, the girls medical was done and a case of rape of a minor was registered against Asaram. On August 21, this case was handed over to the Jodhpur Police. The victim claimed that the incident took place on August 16, 2013. Then she used to study in the 12th class in the girl’s hostel of the Ashram in Chhindwara. The girl had alleged that Asaram raped her at his farmhouse in Madai, Jodhpur. The victim is a resident of Shahjahanpur.
Arrested after 10 days and then many allegations were made
The police investigated the matter and summoned Asaram for questioning. When Asaram did not appear before the police even after ten days, the police arrested him. In this case, on 25 April 2018, Asaram was sentenced to life imprisonment. Then Judge Madhusudan Sharma while giving the verdict had said that a man like Asaram should never come out of jail. On hearing these words of the judge, Asaram started crying bitterly. After this case, many types of allegations were leveled against Asaram. All kinds of allegations including illegal possession of land, rape, assault, and attempt to kill have been leveled against Asaram.
Owner of property worth more than 10 thousand crores
During the court cases, Asaram tries to deny all the allegations leveled against him. It is claimed that Asaram still has assets worth more than ten thousand crores. Asaram is in jail since 2013 and even today many of his ashrams are running. Asaram’s spokesperson had recently told that Asaram’s ashrams are functioning as before and a large number of people reach for worship. These ashrams are run by keeping the feet of Asaram.
