Copenhagen: A large part of the ice mountain in Greenland has broken into the Northeastern Arctic. Scientists believe that this is evidence of rapid climate change. The National Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland reported on Monday that the glacier that has been broken is 110 square kilometers large. It is broken by a large mountain which is about 80 kilometers long and 20 kilometers wide.
The glacier is at the end of the North-Eastern Greenland Ice Stream, from where it will enter the sea by land. According to a survey called GEUS, the annual rate of melting of the Arctic’s largest ice mountain located in northeastern Greenland is monitored with the help of optical satellite imagery (images taken from the satellite). Since 1999, 160 square kilometers of glaciers have been broken by this mountain, which is twice the area of Manhattan in New York.
