International Day of Indigenous Peoples is celebrated to promote these three things as well as to give their social, economic, and judicial security.

    World Indigenous Day was first declared by the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 1994. Since then this day has been started to be celebrated on 9th August. Even today, this ‘World Indigenous Day is celebrated with great pomp all over the world. The purpose behind this is to respect the rights and culture, diversity of all the tribals of the world.

    History of World Indigenous Day
    World Indigenous Day was first declared by the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 1994. This day is celebrated every year during the International Decade for Aboriginal Peoples. Its first decade was 1995-2004. Similarly, in 2004, the Assembly had set a theme to celebrate this day. That theme was “A Decade for Action and Dignity”. To celebrate this day especially, people from the tribal population of different countries come together.
