Earlier on Sunday, WHO’s Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan had tweeted that the World Health Organization’s Technical Advisory Group (WHO) aims to consider listing the Covaxin vaccine being used in the anti-Covid-19 vaccination campaign in India for emergency use. will meet on 26 October. It is believed that in this meeting a big decision can be taken regarding the vaccine.
EOI was submitted on April 19
Bharat Biotech, the company that manufactures the vaccine, submitted an EOI (Expression of Interest) for this vaccine to the World Health Organization on 19 April. He told in the tweet that, India is working closely with Biotech to complete the WHO documents. Our goal is to have a comprehensive portfolio of approved vaccines for emergency use and to expand its reach to all populations.
Recently, Bharat Biotech said that it has given all data related to the vaccine to the WHO for listing for emergency use and is awaiting a response from the Global Health Monitoring Institute.
India, the world’s largest producer of vaccines, had suspended exports to vaccinate its country’s population. Last month, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that India would restore the supply of vaccines abroad.
