Washington: Amidst the tension with China, America has taken a big step. The House of Representatives has passed a law to prevent the forced labor of Uyghur Muslims (Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act) in China’s Xinjiang region. The US says that China is targeting Uighurs and other Muslim organizations living in the region. After which this big step has been taken against China. The Uighur Forced Labor Prevention Act has been passed under the 1930 Tariff Act.

On this issue in the House, with a huge majority of 428-1, the ‘Uighur Forced Labor Prevention Act’ was openly supported. Now this bill will be sent to the Senate. After passing from there, the seal of President Joe Biden will be taken. With the passing of this bill, the goods manufactured from Xinjiang can be banned. A similar measure has already been passed in the Senate.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said before the vote, ‘China’s dictatorship is oppressing Uighurs and other minorities through mass oppression, torture, and forced work.’ Passing these bills will stop this repression.

China expressed objection
On the other hand, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin called the US allegations of genocide and forced labor “vicious slander”. Wang said the US was plotting “economic bullying”. According to reports, the Chinese government has set up detention camps for Uighurs and other Muslim minorities.

China makes minorities do forced labor
US officials say that China tortures the minorities of Xinjiang and makes them forced to work. Then whatever stuff is ready. Democratic and Republican leaders said they expected the measure to have strong support in the House, noting that the House had almost unanimously approved a similar measure last year.

The large share in the global supply chain
Human rights groups, researchers, former residents, and Western politicians, and other officials say Uighurs and other Muslim minorities have been detained and forced into forced labor in Xinjiang since 2016. Xinjiang products constitute a major part of the global supply chain (Xinjiang Forced Labor Report). America’s Biden administration has significantly increased sanctions against China in recent weeks. Many Chinese companies have also been blacklisted. These companies are accused of involvement in the genocide and having links with the Chinese military.
